Uncover Your Child's Potential: The Benefits of a Functional Neuro Assessment

Our Functional Neuro Assessment can uncover your child's true potential and let us help them become the best version of themselves.

As parents, we all strive to uncover our child's full potential, to help them navigate the complexities of life with confidence and joy. Yet, when faced with challenges such as anxiety, ADHD, or other nervous system-related issues, this goal can sometimes feel daunting. Traditional approaches often focus solely on managing symptoms, leaving parents and children feeling like they're just throwing darts in the dark, hoping something will stick. At Sensorium Neuro Wellness, we believe there’s a better way. Our Functional Neuro Assessment™ offers a comprehensive, root-cause approach that can uncover your child's true potential and bring about real, lasting change.

A Deeper Understanding

Imagine the brain and nervous system as a vast, interconnected superhighway. Every touch, emotion, and reflex is processed through this intricate network. When this system is overloaded or under-stimulated, it can lead to a range of symptoms, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). Traditional treatments often miss the mark because they only address these symptoms without understanding the underlying causes.

At Sensorium Neuro Wellness, our Functional Neuro Assessment™ starts with a detailed evaluation of how your child's brain collects, processes, and experiences information from the body and the environment. We assess balance, primitive reflexes, vestibular and proprioceptive functions, autonomic nervous system functions, timing components of brain structures, and oculomotor capabilities. This comprehensive assessment helps us identify the root causes of your child's challenges, rather than just labeling and treating symptoms.

Our Model for Nervous System Health

1. Primitive Reflexes
These reflexes are present in early neurodevelopment to help ensure that basic needs are met in infancy. They are also responsible for helping to build the foundations of the brain and the nervous system and, therefore, can be used in assessing the neurodevelopmental state of an individual.

2. Core Stability/Tone
Creates consistent input to the brain, which helps maintain a stable and accurate frame of reference for our experience of the world. If the brain isn’t receiving these signals properly, it will feel unsafe, and it will often compensate, triggering unhealthy behaviors or thought processes.

3. Brain Timing
The thalamus controls brain timing, which is needed to feel a sense of connection with the body, others, and the pace of life. If the timing is off or the brain isn’t getting the sense of connection our mind often compensates with stimulus and dopamine seeking behaviors in order to attempt to feel this connection.

4. Nervous System Resilience
"Fight, Flight or Freeze” comes from a dysregulated Autonomic Nervous System. This system includes the Vagus Nerves, and is responsible for keeping us relaxed and feeling safe. This can lead to constantly feeling stressed and anxious and can result in burnout and depression.

5. Sensory Integration
The vestibular and proprioceptive systems send information to the brain about the body’s motion and balance. Dysregulation in these systems can lead to oppositional defiance, chaos creation, rumination, and other unhealthy patterns.

6. Eye Tracking
Eye movement fluidity and efficiency are direct reflections of cerebellar and brain function. If this aspect of the neurology is dysregulated it can lead to emotional dysregulation and inefficiencies in information processing.

7. A Balanced Brain
A well-balanced brain processes information efficiently, allowing for emotional regulation and safety, fostering connection and meaningful relationships.

Targeted Solutions for Real Change

We have found that there is very rarely anything “wrong” or broken. By understanding and addressing the underlying causes, we help the brain and body receive the correct stimulation needed to feel safe and function optimally. Our goal is to make meaningful shifts at the source of the issue. This holistic approach enables your child to experience noticeable improvements shortly after starting their personalized program.

"His willingness to learn and write is incredible. He has self-confidence."

At Sensorium Neuro Wellness, we create a targeted roadmap tailored specifically for your child. This individualized program ensures that your child receives the right kind of stimulation and support to foster a sense of connection and reward in their daily activities. As a result, many of our clients find that they feel more like themselves again, ready to tackle whatever life throws their way.
